Minutes Ė July 13, 2010

 

Call to Order

A general meeting of the Advisory Neighborhood Commission 4C was held on Tuesday, July13, 2010.Chairman, Commissioner, Joe Martin called the meeting to order at 6:53 pm in the Roosevelt Senior High School Cafeteria at 4301 13th Street, N.W.

 

Roll Call of Commissioners

Commissioners present included: Joseph Martin (4C09), Timothy Jones (4C08), Gabriel Acevedo (4C10), Steve Leraris (4C04), Michael Yates (4C01) and Janet Myers (4C02), Joseph Vaughan (4C05) and James Davis, II (4C03). Commissioners Shanel Anthony (4C07) and David Tumblin (4C06) were absent. A quorum was established.

Approval of Agenda

2.       Moved Cease Fire Donít Smoke The Brother Grant Application to first item under new business.

Items to be tabled

1.       Resolution for a DC Occupational Tax and registration for Wagering, information provided to be used for revenue purposes exclusively.

 

A motion to adopt the modified agenda by Commissioner Martin was seconded by Commissioner Davis and approved unanimously by the Commission.

 

Reading and approval of June Minutes

A motion to adopt the amended minutes by Commissioner Vaughan was seconded by Commissioner Leraris and passed unanimously by the Commission.

No representative from the Fire or EMS Department attended the meeting.

 

Community Comments

         Brief discussion by Nate Bennett-Fleming, Shadow U.S. Representative Candidate.

         Community concern of cars racing on race on Varnum by possible drug suspects. (Commissioner Martin to follow up with resident.

         Petworth Community Farmers Market, Fridays from 3pm-7pm. Season ends October 29, 2010.

         Seniors expressed concerns over high bills from Comcast and safety in area alleys.

         Community expressed concerns for Sweet Mangoísrenewal of Liquor License after building a fence without a permit. (Jones)

New Business

Presentation by Cease Fire Donít Smoke The Brothers, Al-Malik Farrakhan for a grant in the amount of $3,000.

 

Motion by Commissioner Janet Myers for ANC4C to support the grant application for Cease Fire Donít Smoke The Brothers, was seconded by Commissioner Vaughan and passed unanimously.

 

Brief ANC 4C grant discussion of request by MPD-4D Citizens Advisory Committee for $2,00 donations towards improvements for the community room at MPD-4D.Note: All Ward 4ANCs are being asked to consider this request. (Martin)

Presentation by Georgia Avenue Rock Creek East Family Support Collaborative brief discussion of grant request. This item will be revisited at the August meeting.

 

Brief discussion to move the September 14, 2010 meeting to September 16, 2010.

Motion by Commissioner Martin to move meeting to September 16, 2010, was seconded by Commissioner Leraris and passed unanimously by the Commission.

 

Presentation by Commissioner Jones for the support of the ANC4C to support the use of Triangular Park for the Community Fish Fry, August 28, 2010.

Motion by Commissioner Jones for the ANC4C to provide a Letter of Support for the use of the Triangular Park for annual Community Fish Fry, was seconded by Commissioner Myers and passed unanimously. ††

 

Presentation by Commissioner Jones to request funds not to exceed $500 for the SMD4C08 13th annual Redeem the Dream Community Day Fish Fry.

Motion by Commissioner Jones for the ANC4C to support the request for funds not to exceed $500 for the SMD4C08 annual Redeem the Dream Community Day Fish Fry, was seconded by Commissioner Myers and passed unanimously.

 

Presentation by Commissioner Jones for the Resolution for a DC Occupational Tax and registration for Wagering, with information provided to be used for revenue purposes exclusively.

Motion by Commissioner Martin to table until further information can be provided, was seconded by Commissioner Yates with seven (7) voting yes to table and one (1) voting in opposition of Resolution (Commissioner Davis).

 

Motion by Chair, Commissioner Martin to adjourn the meeting.The motion was seconded and passed unanimously by the Commission.The meeting adjourned at 8:17 pm.
